Travelling with children can be a bit like taking a herd of wild goats on holiday, or so it has been said.
SAFETY & SECURITY
Correctly installed child car seats can reduce the need for toddler hospitalisation by up to 69% after a road crash.
While shopping this time of year, criminals are shopping too! Travel with your car’s windows and doors locked and keep valuables out of sight or hidden in the boot.
If you’re driving or flying with children this holiday period domestically or internationally, be prepared or rather over-prepared. You can never have too many wet wipes, snacks, refreshments, hand sanitisers or something to keep them occupied. Fill a bag with games, toys, favourite objects, extra clothes, pull-up nappies, medicine, etc.
The greatest thing you can take whether at the airport, sightseeing or getting from A to B is extra time. Children love to explore and don’t care for the time pressures of travel.
Resist the temptation to feed sugary snacks and sweets by packing a mixture of healthy snacks, anything to avoid arriving at your holiday destination with children in the middle of a sugar rush and bouncing off the walls.
YOURSELF SPECIFIC – long flight
The audio book that you have been wanting to read all year! You have at least 10 to 14 hours of good uninterrupted time, get the children settled early.
Our many different cultures notwithstanding, there's something about the December summer holidays that makes the planet communal. Even cultures that do not celebrate Christmas can't help but be caught up in the collective spirit of December, it is in the air, it is an inspiring time of the year and certainly one most of us look forward to. Not everyone celebrates the Christian holidays so it is not necessary to say 'merry Christmas' to everyone you see, be sensitive to those around us.
Laughter is important, not only because it makes us happy, it also has actual health benefits and that's because laughter completely engages the body and releases the mind. It connects us to others and that in itself has a healing effect. (Marlo Thomas)
Spending time with family is a positive activity enhanced when woven with simple family activities, is becoming a lost art. Whatever you are doing for the rest of the year and before the new school term begins, enjoy every moment.
